What is the urban forest?

Petaluma’s urban forest includes all the trees in the city—in parks, on private property, in our open spaces, along the streets—and all the life they support. Our urban trees clean the air, fight climate change, cool our homes, and help protect our waterways. But an urban forest doesn’t grow as easily as a wildland forest. It takes care and resources to plant trees, water them, and protect them.

What is an urban forest management plan?

An urban forest management plan (UFMP) is a long-term strategic plan to grow and nurture the urban forest. This step-by-step guide for Petaluma will set priorities for plantings, create a plan for lifelong tree care, identify funding opportunities, and prepare for a changing future. For the next ten months, we’re teaming up with the City of Petaluma to develop the UFMP, but we can’t do it without you!
